Roquette’s Certified Ecodesign Experts Advance Sustainable Innovation

Our purpose to “turn the potential of nature into the essentials of life” guides how we innovate sustainably at Roquette. Sustainability is an increasingly important factor in how customers evaluate ingredients and products. Ecodesign addresses this as a standardized, comprehensive framework for designing and developing products. It aims to maximize a product’s benefits and reduce negative environmental impacts throughout a product’s life cycle.

Since 2025, Roquette has trained employees in ecodesign through a certification program in partnership with Mines Paris – PSL Executive Education and Gingko 21. It provides our teams with the knowledge and skills to develop sustainable plant-based solutions with lower environmental impacts from the earliest stages of product development.

As Virginie Dubois, Ecodesign Program Co-sponsor and Head of R&D for the Nutrition & Bioindustry Business Unit at Roquette, shared:

First certified ecodesign experts and projects at Roquette

Over the past year, four training sessions enabled participants to strengthen their expertise in ecodesign and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) while applying it to business challenges that customers face. As a key milestone to become certified ecodesign practitioners, the participants presented 10 innovation team projects to a jury of representatives from Roquette, Mines Paris – PSL Executive Education, and Gingko 21.

All projects focused on developing new plant-based ingredients and solutions with lower environmental impact. The projects successfully achieved certification, reflecting the growing maturity of our ecodesign capabilities. On July 1, 2026, 85 graduates received their Ecodesign Practitioner diplomas during a graduation ceremony at the end of the program.

Certified innovation projects recognized for LCA, creativity and teamwork

The jury commended the quality of all the teams’ projects and presented awards to recognize notable achievements in three areas: excellence in Life Cycle Assessment, agility and creativity in leveraging data to support ecodesign decisions, and outstanding team engagement and collaboration.

Jean-Pierre Vannier, Leader of the INVENT for the future Sustainability Platform at Roquette, oversees the ecodesign program and emphasized:

“All groups showed a real level of involvement and mastery. These 10 projects demonstrate how ecodesign can transform sustainability challenges into innovation opportunities.”

How ecodesign supports sustainable product development

Certifying Roquette’s first 85 experts marks progress toward our goal of having 100% of our solutions ecodesigned. It also meets customers’ needs for more sustainable ingredients.

As Xavier Galliot, Ecodesign Program Co-sponsor and Chief Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement Officer at Roquette, explained:
